TRADEMARKS SEARCHES

For trademarks, unlike patents, there is no institutional body performing worldwide searches among prior trademarks which are similar or identical to the one for which protection is sought.

However, it is possible to conduct national searches since trademarks have a territorial validity.
Recommendable searches are those covering not only identical but also similar trademarks.
It is further possibile to perform searches aimed at detecting trademarks – either filed or registered - in the name of a specific owner.
